NEWS of WENDELL Floyd Johnson returned home Thursday from Rex Hospital. Talmadge Whitley underwent surgery at Wake Memorial last Friday for gall stones. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wells of Farmville were here for the fu neral of Mr. Wells’ sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Baker. Mrs. Felix Dodd returned to her home in Emporia, Va., last Friday after spending a few days with her sister-in-law, Mrs. O. C. Mullen. Mrs. Joe Ferrell, Miss Carol and Todd Roberts and Mrs. Marvin Todd were in Wilmington for three days attending the azalea festival. Mrs. J. E. Knott’s friends will be glad to know she is at her home in Wendell for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Dean and mother, Mrs. C. P. Dean, spent the weekend in Norfolk, Va., with Joe Dean. J. W. Pittman is a patient at Rex Hospital. Jasper Thomas is a patient at Wake Memorial Hospital for diag nostic treatment. J. W. Dale, O. G. Spell, Mossey Faison and Russell Price attended the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Ga., last weekend. Broadus Riggins has returned home after surgery at Wendell Zebulon Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Jake May left Wednesday for Atlanta, Ga., to spend the Easter Holidays with their daughter, Mrs. Steven Fow ler and girls. Earl King had surgery at Wen dell-Zebulon Hospital this week. He is manager of Johnson Cotton Company. Mrs. Inez Fortune is a patient at Wake Memorial Hospital for di agnostic treatment. Mrs. Fred Baldwin and Miss Allen Dodd o( Raleigh spent the weekend with their aunt, Mrs. O. C. Mullen, and their grandmother, Mrs. S. T. Dodd. Russell Wells has returned to his home in El Paso, Texas, after spending several days with his mother, Mrs. Hilda Wells, and at tending the funeral service of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wells Baker. CWO and Mrs. Loy LegGore, Grey and Jeff of El Paso, Texas, were guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Bridgers. They were friends while both were stationed in France. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Gay and two children of Richmond, Va., will be guests this weekend of Mrs. Gay’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nowell and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Nowell were luncheon guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Winton Anderson at Waynesville. Mrs. Anderson then drove them to Maggie Valley and Ghost Town. • MRS. EDNA EARL GODWIN Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Earl Richardson Godwin, 42, of 2823 Croyton Circle, Raleigh, who died Thursday night at Duke Hos pital, were held at 3:30 p.m. Sat urday at Samaria Baptist Church. Tue Rev. B. S. Turner and the Rev. Parks Harciss officiated. Burial was in Montlawn. Mrs. Godwin retired from the Police Depart ment’s traffic citation bureau in 1958 after 14 years of service. Surviving are her husband, Lu cius Q. Wendell High School Chapter departed at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, chaperoned by Principal Ronald Berry and Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Nowell. Student members of the Junior Class were Sally Buchanan, Jane Chamblee, Celeste Jeffry, Jim Bai ley, Ray Hinnant and Dan Strick land. The Senior Class students were George Nowell, Mary Jo Hester, James Honeycutt, Margaret Ruth Thomas, Patricia Murphy and Mary Ann Knott. The Chapter attended the first session at 7:00 p.m. Friday and the second session at 9:30 Saturday a.m. Prin. Berry attended the Ad ministrators Luncheon at 1:00. The students visited Biltmore Es tates and Mars Hill on Saturday evening. Jim Bailey, James Hon eycutt and Sally Buchanan at tended Sunday School at First Baptist Church; the remaining members joined them for church services. Sally Buchanan has had a perfect attendance at Sunday School for the past 10 years. They departed for home at 1:30 on Sunday. Bridgettes Bridge Club Is Feted Mrs. Charles Hawkins was host ess to the Bridgettes Bridge Club recently at her home on Lee Street. Spring flowers in elegant arrangements were used for deco ration. Playing were Mrs. Steve Black ley, Mrs. Perry GTogan, Mrs. Thurman Murray, Mrs. Raymond Pippin, Mrs. Amos Estes, and Mrs. Jack Mitchell. Guests present were Mrs. Eldred Rountree and Mrs. Crafton Hudson. Mrs. Estes was the recipient of high score prize, with low going to Mrs. Pippin. Mrs. Rountree took home guest high. Following the three progressions the hostess served fresh straw berry parfait, cheese straws, pickle and coffee. Fruit drinks and nuts were passed during play. L. Moody and Mrs. Louise Starnes of this section. Gratis Haswell’s children gave him a birthday dinner Sunday. Those present were the Alpheus Haswell family of Wendell, the B. R. Millers and daughter of Dan ville, Va., and the J. T. Gay fam ily. Mrs. George Currin has been ill with flu for the past week. Her mother, Mrs. Maggie Strickland of Wendell, spent several days with her last week. The revival is underway at Hephzibah Church this week. Please attend. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Whitaker of Lizard Lick, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Faucette of Raleigh and Miss Lula Strickland of Wendell went to Carolina Beach Sunday. They also visited the azalea gardens at Wil mington and came back by White Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Oris Horton vis ited T. P. Baker and Rev. James Pernell Sunday afternoon. They are both at home from the hos pital. Mr. and Mrs. Oris Horton visited their daughter, Mrs. Allen Mc Swain last week at Rex Hospital. She is home now. Teachers of the Workers Coun cil met with A. B. Knott last Wednesday night. The annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children of Hephzibah Com munity will be held Saturday af ternoon at 2:30 at the community center. Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear and son, A. O. Puryear, visited their daughter, Mrs. Mable Willi ford in Raleigh, who returned home Saturday from Wake Memo rial Hospital after spending three weeks there. Mrs. John Gray and children, John and Darian of Chicago, 111., are spending several weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Pate. Mrs. Blanch Gray of Greens boro, mother of Capt. John Gray, visited her daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Gray, and Mr. and Mrs. Coy Pate Sunday. Visitors of the T. Y. Puryear’s, Sr., Sunday were the T. Y. Pur year’s, Jr., and children Marvin and Jean of Wendell, Maynard Puryear and children, Donald and Freddie and the Carl Puryears of Raleigh. Sunday night visitors were the Ennis Puryears of Mit chell’s Mill and Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Stell of Raleigh. Mrs. Herbert Hood and daugh ters, Mrs. Geraldine Massey and baby and Mrs. Fay Timberlake and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fay Hood of Zebulon visited Mrs. Alice Hood Thursday afternoon. Visi tors during the week were Mrs. Vera Rhodes, the F. V. Hoods and the D. A. Gays of Kinston. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Richardson and children of Coca, Fla., spent a while with their parents, the J. C. Carters. They were here to attend the funeral of Mrs. Row land Richardson of Raleigh. 120-nipli Charge Is Reduced Here A young Zebulon man had a speeding charge reduced in Re corder’s Court Wednesday. Charles Wesley Long, 21, of Route 1, Zebulon, was originally charged with speeding 120 znph. The charge was reduced to speed ing in a 55 mph zone, and he was fined $50 and court costs. Airman Reassigned Airman Basic Sonny M. Perry, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Sonny M. Perry of Route 4, Zebulon, is be ing reassigned to Keesler AFB, Miss., for technical training as a United States Air Force radio and radar maintenance specialist. Airman Perry, who enlisted in the Air Force a short time ago, completed his initial basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in Lackland, Texas. The airman, a 1961 graduate of Wakelon High School, attended N. C. State College. HALES CHAPEL Mrs. J. D. Driver Our Easter Sunrise Service will be held next Sunday morning at 5:45 at the church. There will be a fellowship hour immediately af ter in the recreation room. Every one is urged to attend. The general W. M. U. meeting will be Friday night at the church beginning at 7:30. Our theme for the month is, “In the Philippines.” Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Driver and son, David, Mrs. Lila Mae Driver and children, Carlton, Wallace, and Nadine, and W. H. Driver, Jr., and Carmel Wall spent the week end with the Elbert Drivers of Wilmington and attended the Aza lea Festival. Mrs. Jack Joyce of New Jersey is visiting her mother, Mrs. Ella Price, and Mrs. Maybelle Eatman and other relatives while here. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Brown were Sunday afternoon guests of her sisters, the Joe Whitleys and the J. D. Taltons of Smithfield. Weekend guests of the Will Creeches were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Andrews, Allen Creech, Lois Hag wood, and Purvis Liles of Raleigh; also Dewey Wayne Creech and his friend, Bill Sawyer of Norfolk. The Vaiden Richardsons, Mrs. Meecie Hocutt and the Larry Du prees went to Wilmington Satur day to view the gardens and other points of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spencer and family were Monday night guests of her uncle, the Vaiden Richard sons. The Spencers will be leaving for California Wednesday to make their home there. The Brantley Carters and daughter of Zebulon were Sunday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Hinton, and family. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Andrews and son and the Bill Stricklands went to the Azalea Festival Sat urday in Wilmington. Mrs. Ora Martin spent Friday night with her son, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Martin, and family of Corinth, and they attended the donkey ball game in the school gymnasium. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Brown and family of Raleigh visited her sis ter, the Talmadge Vanns, and Jane Sunday. The demon Johnsons visited her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Johnson, and family of Wendell Sunday. Sunday guests of Mrs. Ara Mar tin were Mr. and Mrs. William Martin of Gamer, Mrs. Lennie Ed wards and Charles Martin of Ral eigh. There will be a choir rehearsal Saturday night at 7 o’clock. All choir members are urged tq be present. Excessive amount of bleaches in your bleach water does not whiten your clothes any better or faster, but can weaken them.
